Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Locs installation.

Timing depends on hair length, density, and method chosen. Single-ended installs may take 3–6 hours, double-ended or larger sets can take 6–10 hours. We provide estimated appointment lengths during booking to ensure proper scheduling and comfort.

When done properly by experienced stylists, locs installation should not damage hair. We use gentle tension, appropriate sectioning, and quality materials. Regular maintenance, proper moisturizing, and avoiding excessive tightness prevent breakage and protect scalp health.

Single-ended locs use one extension attached to the natural hair for a lighter, more natural movement. Double-ended uses two extensions folded together for fuller, thicker locs without as many individual pieces. Choice depends on desired volume, weight, and stylist preference.

Keep scalp clean and moisturized, avoid heavy products, and sleep with a satin bonnet or pillowcase. Refrain from manipulating roots excessively; allow locs to set. Follow your stylist's washing and retightening schedule to encourage healthy locking and minimize unraveling.

It's best to wait at least 2–4 weeks before chemical coloring or heat styling to let roots settle. Temporary color methods or accessory styling are usually fine. Consult your stylist for safe timing and product recommendations based on your chosen installation method.

Maintenance varies—typically every 4–8 weeks depending on hair growth, loc method, and desired neatness. Single-ended locs may need different timing than double-ended. During consultation we recommend a personalized maintenance plan to preserve shape, reduce buildup, and prevent tension damage.
